Even before you swipe on NARS Orgasm, one of the brand’s cult-favorite cosmetic products, the suggestive name is enough to make you blush, and one dusting is proof it’s something to be excited about.
François Nars, a graduate of the Carita cosmetics school in Paris, has always been a beauty connoisseur—playing with color, texture, and precise formulations in school led to the bon vivant doing exactly that years later.
Over the course of several decades, his love for aesthetics gave rise to distinctive and timeless cosmetic styles and products.
“Descriptive such as ‘glam’ and ‘smoky,’ however, has no place in the Nars vocabulary, where colors with names like Deep Throat and Sex Machine are the rule rather than the exception, and the pink-peach hybrid blush Orgasm is a perennial best-seller,” writes Linda Evangelista for Interview.

Orgasm Blush: The Meaning of the Name
“I created the original Orgasm blush in the same way I create all of my hues,” Nars explained. “Nars fans fell in love with the name and the color all of a sudden. It didn’t appear to be very adventurous, yet it was a hit with everyone.”
Surprisingly, when I questioned him about the reactions to the name—which is extremely sexual—he said it didn’t feel inappropriate.
He really came up with the name before he came up with the hue (which is probably how he got the shade just right).
Nars went on, “I always thought it was a fantastic way to achieve orgasm just by buying a blush when I named it, so why not?
I was looking for something a little more daring.”
