FRANKLIN, TN (WSMV) – A statue commemorating black troopers and their contributions to the Civil Warfare was unveiled in Franklin on Saturday.

The statue dedication concluded three days of schooling and celebration of black troops through the Civil Warfare.

The ceremony was dubbed “March to Freedom,” and occurred in entrance of the historic Franklin Courthouse on Saturday morning.

The Fuller Story organized the occasion, which was free to attend.

The three-day occasion ends with the “March to Freedom” celebration in entrance of the historic Franklin Courthouse and the disclosing of a bronze statue…

“This wonderful statue will stand in entrance of the Historic Courthouse in Franklin the place a whole lot of escaped slaves in Williamson county and surrounding areas fled to so as to enlist within the Union Military, defined Dr. Chris Williamson, a founding member of The Fuller Story. “This statue represents the 186,000 United States Coloured Troops troopers who courageously fought for this nation’s freedom and their very own freedom. These black males are worthy to be honored and celebrated.”
