Rematch with Teofimo Lopez
After losing his world lightweight championships to Teofimo Lopez in October, Vasiliy Lomachenko won a ninth-round stoppage victory over Masayoshi Nakatani of Japan in Las Vegas to make his claim for a rematch.
Vasiliy Lomachenko knocked out Masayoshi Nakatani in the ninth round to make a strong case for a rematch against Teofimo Lopez.
After dropping Nakatani in the fifth round and then flooring him again to force the stoppage, the Ukrainian star completed a remarkable comeback after losing his world lightweight championships to Lopez in October.
Lomachenko then demanded a rematch with the Brooklyn fighter, who must first defend his WBA, IBF, and WBO titles against IBF mandatory challenger George Kambo in a rescheduled bout.

“Everyone witnessed how I won, and everyone has been yearning for a rematch,” Lomachenko added.
“He has a future battle with Kambosos, but what about after that?”
A violent head clash in the first round caused Lomachenko to incur a gash above his brow, which was a rare moment of anxiety for him.
But the three-weight world champion seemed unconcerned by the wound, unleashing a fast left hand in the second round that caused Nakatani to hold.
In the third, Lomachenko slipped within range for another crisp left hand, while Nakatani sought to slow down the pace with body punches in the fourth.
Lomachenko stepped up his attack in the eighth, determined to achieve his goal, and Nakatani wilted, putting a stop to the match.
After a continuous attack by Lomachenko, who dispelled any concerns about his superb abilities with a dominating victory, a left hand buckled Nakatani’s legs and he crumpled to the floor.

When Vasiliy Lomachenko returns to the ring this weekend to fight Masayoshi Nakatani, one of the finest boxers in the world will seek to go back on the winning track. On Saturday, the action will be broadcast live from Virgin Hotels Las Vegas (10 p.m. ET, ESPN+).
Lomachenko (14-2, 10 KO) will be competing for the first time since losing a controversial decision to Teofimo Lopez in October.
The defeat cost Lomachenko his WBA and WBO lightweight belts, as the division transitioned to a youth movement that looked to put Lomachenko out of most discussions about the most important prospective matches at 135 pounds.
Despite the fact that many people’s attention has shifted to Lopez, Gervonta Davis, Devin Haney, and Ryan Garcia, a rematch with Lopez remains a strong possibility for Lomachenko’s next fight should he win.
